Summer Track & Field Clinic

Track & Field Summer Clinics

PAL youth athletic programs are dedicated to enriching the lives of young people through sports. 

We're offering two grade-level clinics this summer

  • Track & Field Session I - Grades 3-7
    Designed to develop young athletes through a progressive training approach. Focusing on specific events and their unique demands
  • Rising Freshman Session II - Grades 7-8
    Introduces our season-long strength, movement, and flexibility training used at the high school level.

Both clinics aim to develop fundamental skills and ease a transition to competitive track and field

 

Our Track program is led by Coach Jesse McCray, who also serves as Head Coach for Staples High School Girls Track and Field.

Track & Field Session I | Grades 3 - 7

Open to Boys and Girls | All athletic levels are welcome!

Session I | Grades 3 - 7 | **June 23 - July 17, 2025**

The clinic will combine foundational general training with specialized event instruction, providing athletes with both broad athletic development and focused skill acquisition.

 Session I Training Dates

  • June: 23, 24, 26, 30  
  • July: 1, 3, 7, 8, 10, 14, 15, 17

Session I Details

  • Location: Staples High School, Paul Lane Stadium,  170 North Avenue Westport
  • Time: 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM  
  • Fee: $200.00

Clinic Structure

  • Week 1: Sprints Focus
    Technical and physical development including strength, flexibility, mobility, endurance, and acceleration drills.
  • Week 2: Hurdles Emphasis
    Comprehensive training in both short and long hurdles techniques.
  • Week 3: Horizontal Jumps
    Specialized instruction in jumping events and techniques.

Special Competition Opportunity

**Nutmeg State Games - July 12th, Middletown, CT** *(Optional)*
New England's largest amateur athletic event provides an exciting competition opportunity for clinic participants.

 

Rising Freshman Session II | Grades 7- 8

Open to Boys & Girls  |  All athletic levels are welcome!

Session II | Grades 7 - 8 | **June 23, 2025 - July 17, 2025**

  • Open to Athletes entering Grade 9 (rising freshmen)  
  • Special Welcome: 7th graders comfortable training with older students

The clinic bridges the gap between youth and high school athletics, providing essential skills and conditioning.  Primary Focus: Long sprints and middle distance development  

Session II Training Dates:

  • June: 23, 24, 26, 30
  • July: 1, 3, 7, 8, 10, 14, 15, 17

Session II Details

  • Location: Staples High School, Paul Lane Stadium, 170 North Avenue, Westport 
  • Time: 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM  
  • Fee: $200.00

Training Structure

  • Duration: 4 weeks
  • Strength Training: 3 sessions per week (50 minutes each)
  • Focus Areas: Speed and power events including sprints, hurdles, and jumps
  • Training Philosophy: General preparation transitioning to event-specific training
  • Individual scheduling accommodations available as needed

This clinic develops athletes through general training methods, introducing the season-long strength, movement, and flexibility program used in our high school track program.

Our mission is to provide each athlete with a summer season of preparation for the high school program, ensuring they enter their freshman season with strength, technique, and confidence.
